Regular Expressions (RegEx)

Regular expressions (regex) can be used to define the patterns that DLP systems should look for when identifying and classifying data.

For example, a regex pattern can be defined to search for Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, or other sensitive information. With some solutions, organizations can create custom regex rules to identify organizational-specific data like account numbers or industry-specific data such as diagnostic codes in healthcare. When DLP systems encounter data that matches these patterns, they can take actions such as blocking the transmission of the data and/or alerting security teams.
